Publishing is an apprenticeship industry, meaning that much of what a publishing professional needs to know will be learned on the job. Often, industry knowledge learned in one department is useful throughout the publishing house—allowing the opportunity to move between departments.
This will be an unpaid, online internship. Interns are required to commit to a minimum of fifteen hours per week. Through the use of the internet, interns will be able to gain experience in the fields of editorial, marketing, publicity, and sales by working independently and collectively on the Works of authors signed to Southern Classic Publishing (SCP). Aside from learning about how an independent publishing house operates you may also be required to perform some administrative duties.
The intern will be evaluated based upon completing assignments on a timely manner, how effective they were troubleshooting unforeseen issues, keeping a healthy relationship with others related to Southern Classic Publishing, and contacts outside of SCP.
We at SCP take pride in producing quality work and shaping the careers of our authors. We expect the same professionalism from our interns. If an intern displays inappropriate behavior for the work environment and receives two warnings their internship will be immediately terminated. Although this is an unpaid internship, SCP has allotted a budget to reimburse and/or provide the cost for transportation as needed.
